Darcy Unveils Scar Collection, Cancer Medical Records Used to Create Fashion Line

Scar Collection premiered in December on YouTube as a virtual fashion show. Inspired by fashion designer Darcy’s journey with her husband through three years of melanoma skin cancer, Scar Collection uses pieces from medical memories such as radiation casting and body scan images to create wearable art.

The designer behind the brand, Darcy Payne, is a 27-year-old Nashville native (and former Murfreesboro Pulse contributor) who has been designing clothes for musicians and celebrities in Nashville for four years. Darcy hasn’t released a fashion collection since before the pandemic, making this the first collection launch in over a year.

Darcy, a women’s fashion brand available to stylists and celebrities nationwide, specializes in waterproof outerwear. All of the jackets in the Scar Collection are waterproof, made with best-in-class three-layer breathable waterproof fabrics.

“It’s an exciting time,” says Darcy. “I’ve been working on this collection for a year and a half.”

Established in 2018, the brand Darcy started with basic waterproof garments made with polyurethane then evolved to breathable waterproof fabrics. Darcy has since expanded its line to include embroidered sweatshirts and custom blouses for women.

“I’ve been more vulnerable this year. We took my husband’s story and made it into wearable art. The show explains how cancer stole our 20s without saying anything in words,” Darcy said.

Scar Collection features include embroidery of the cancer patient’s scar, necklaces made from radiation castings and medical records printed to make custom fabrics. An accompanying feature film explains some of the couple’s real-life journey and gives each model a storyline and character to play.

Filmed in an abandoned paint factory, the runway is moody, yet somehow it instills hope and love. The models have also become inspired by the couple’s journey.

“The line that Darcy is debuting is all inspired by her husband’s cancer journey,” says model Hannah King. “The piece that I’m wearing in the runway is his CT scans! The necklace is radiation casting . . . the detail in this collection is so cool.”

The Scar Collection virtual fashion show is free to watch online.

The collection will be available to stylists and celebrities after the premiere. For more information about the Darcy brand, visit darcypayne.com.
