Make Music Nashville returns for its tenth year with a wild and wonderful mix of more than 20 free, all-ages musical events on Wednesday, June 21.
Make Music Nashville is part of Make Music Day, a global music celebration that takes place on the summer solstice each year and brings people of all ages and skill levels together to make music. This year, over 100 U.S. cities will host thousands of Make Music performances as part of the world’s largest annual music event.
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, and has since spread to over 1,000 cities across 120 countries. Completely different from a typical musical festival, Make Music concerts are performed by anyone who wants to take part and enjoyed by everyone who wants to attend. From classical to folk, hip-hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock, live music of all kinds resounds on streets, sidewalks, porches, plazas, parks, gardens, store fronts and other public spaces on the longest day of the year.
Nashville’s 2023 event will include:
– Carlos DeFord Bailey at Plaza Mariachi giving harmonica history, lessons and a playalong; participants may take home a harmonica thanks to Hohner and the Country Music Hall of Fame
– The Ukedelics concert and Uke 101 lesson and jam session at Fanny’s House of Music
– Recording Studio petting zoo at the Main Nashville Public Library and performances at other NPL branches
– Performances at breweries like Opera on Tap x Classical Revolution at Jackalope
– A free group guitar lesson at Guitar Center Nashville
and more!
Musicians of all ages may take part in any of the events, or they can register their own events at nashville.makemusicday.org. Businesses, buildings, schools, churches and other institutions can also visit the website to offer their outdoor spaces as concert locations.
