Monterey may sound cheesy, Jack, but what is Swiss, if not holy?
It fits then, that for Memorial Day weekend, The Old Gray Revival in Monterey is pouring into the Tennessee town’s 75-plus-acre venue The Old Gray with holy sounds aplenty.
The family-friendly fun highlights praise and worship from Jimmy Thorpe with The Worship Roundtable and guest speaker Bobby Davis on Sunday, May 28. Contemporary Christian artists We the Kingdom, Patrick Mayberry and Jason Crabb play Monday, May 29.
Crabb is also on the bill for the Grand Ole Opry’s extra-special “Opry Salutes the Troops” night on May 23, broadcast not only on WSM Radio but also on the Circle All Access television network (with select Opry performances available via its YouTube channel) and co-presented by MTSU. Fresh off a combined collaborative take with multi-platinum country music act Dylan Scott on Crabb’s strong solo hit “Good Morning Mercy” the two-time Grammy winner just released brand-new single “Do It for You” (as in He did it for me, He can do it for you).
We the Kingdom
“It’s one of those encouraging songs. It’s a testimony song,” Crabb said of the uplifting tune. “It allows you to minister. It’s one of those that if you know somebody who is going through something that God helped you with or delivered you from or brought you through . . . this song is that song that you send out to say, ‘Here’s what God’s done for me.’ We’re all pulling that same cart up the hill.”
Revival takes place May 28–May 29 at The Old Gray event space.
Sunday’s events are free. Tickets for Monday are $40 for general admission with several camping level packages available as well. The first 300 purchasers will receive a free T-shirt. Chairs or blankets are recommended. Gates open both days at 5 p.m. and music begins at 7. There will be a children’s area with games and inflatables from noon to 5 p.m. Buy tickets at theoldgray.com or call 931-201-9790 for more information. Other shows at Old Gray of late included an April date with (American Idol winner and runner-up, respectively) Noah Thompson and Hunter Girl; come June 9 the spot gets its Summer Nights concert series started with Casey Barnes (who just so happens to have a song titled “Summer Nights,” too).
The Old Gray is located at 3781 Monterey Hwy., Monterey.
