Prohibition Home Brewing and Premium Cigars has relocated to Hop Springs, 6790 John Bragg Hwy. The local shop recently celebrated its third anniversary while launching at its new location.
Founded by Jim Africano and Aaron Stephenson, Prohibition has been offering winemaking and home brewing supplies and kits, hosting winemaking classes and also selling a full suite of cigars over recent years.
After outgrowing its previous storefront beside Cedar Glade Brews, and losing its production facility, it was time for a change.
“After meeting with Hop Springs management, everyone realized there is a great alliance here. Now production is in-house, retail items are being rolled out, and our mobile cigar lounge, ‘The CigaRV,’ is onsite at Hop Springs for most events,” Africano continued.
On top of Hop Springs’ already diverse and packed calendar of events and concerts, more cool things are being added with the merger. Cigar events, winemaking classes, wine tastings, singles nights, monthly animal rescue events and veterans events are part of Prohibition’s specialties, and the options, along with the acreage and facility, continue to grow.
The recording industry fraternity Omega Delta Psi held its back-to-school bash in tandem with Prohibition’s Aug. 25 launch party.
For updates on winemaking class schedules, the forthcoming singles night and other details on Prohibition Home Brewing and Premium Cigars, find Prohibition Home Brewing on Facebook.

Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney A. McPhee recently provided more details on the university’s plans to build a hotel on campus through a public-private partnership. The hotel, located at the intersection of Greenland Drive and Middle Tennessee Boulevard, will serve as a learning laboratory for students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program, the only accredited such program in the state.
While estimated cost, size and other details are being negotiated and finalized, McPhee said the proposed public-private partnership would result in a facility “that will serve our campus community, bolster tourism in the area, and be a favorite destination for visitors to our campus as well as athletic facilities.
“MTSU is uniquely positioned to continue significantly impacting our students, community, region, and state,” McPhee said, noting that 60% of MTSU graduates still live within an hour of Murfreesboro, and its alumni continue to make significant contributions to the business community within the state.
The MTSU hotel can be used by students’ families, athletic teams and other visitors. Construction is expected to begin early 2026.
