Middle Tennessee State University will put the spotlight on the low brass on Sunday, Feb. 1, with a full afternoon of trombone-centered performances at the Wright Music Building, bringing together students, alumni, faculty, guest artists, area trombonists and onlookers for a trombone celebration.
MTSU trombone instructor David Loucky & Friends kick off performances at 2 p.m., with MTSU Trombone Ensembles, Bone Therapy—a trombone collective comprised largely of physicians—and then a group of MTSU trombone alumni following. The event culminates with a Mass Trombone Choir performance scheduled for 5:45 p.m., uniting all players onstage for a resonant, low-brass conclusion. Brass enthusiasts, prospective students and those curious about the instrument’s rich sound can explore the trombone’s stylistic range, from classical repertoire and string-accompanied suites to modern ensemble writing and jazz-inflected pieces, at the all-about-the-trombone afternoon on Feb. 1.
