Skeetzo N' Krysis

Murfreesboro’s self-explanatory in name, “highly energetic/bone chilling,” punk/metal shockers Skeetzo N’ Krysis have released a follow-up to their 2018 full-length debut with FrequentZz, released in late 2025, after a spell of life took hold.

With usual intent to exhibit campy gore, and harboring the grit and diligence it takes to remain within the local punk/metal scene in Murfreesboro, the release clarifies what Skeetzo frontman Michael Laster has been up to over the course of the past few years—raising a family and stewing . . . on wholesomeness.

“Since our last recording, Skin Cart fell in love, got hitched, and had a pair of humanoids of his own,” Laster says in the opening track of FrequentZz, “The Aftermath,” also featuring Troma Entertainment’s Lloyd Kaufman, himself, as Skeetzo N’ Krysis ransack a fictional radio station.

“Karoshi” follows, shredding hard right off the bat, dealing with finding a better job and keeping up with the inescapable grind. The group reminds listeners to question everything you see, don’t get corrupted by the dollar bill, and don’t be afraid.

“Red Barn” opens with the strum of Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” before Skeetzo’s characteristically goofy rag piano successfully juxtaposes, guiding the style-mashing concept into an excellent metal guitar build.

The following, “DoomZday,” has sick, thick thrash bass riffs along with crash chime accompanying Laster’s epic about the horsemen coming soon, and warning against corruption before sinking listeners into the drudgiest sludge metal. There’s a banjo in this one, too—a metal banjo.

Remaining a part of the local creative scene within which kids can vent, Skeetzo N’ Krysis carry on their theatrics, but in a shift towards teaching a child. FrequentZz stands as a serendipitous answer to a question posed in the closing track of their previous long-form outing, Synchronize, stating What the [&%*$] is there else to do in this town?! and appropriately picking right back up where they left off.
