Murfreesboro Joins Make Music Day Celebration on June 21 With Free Performances and Music-Making

Murfreesboro will make its debut as an official Make Music Day community on Sunday, June 21, joining hundreds of cities across the United States and more than 1,000 cities worldwide in a free, day-long celebration of music.

Thanks to a sponsorship from the Tennessee Entertainment Commission, Murfreesboro is one of 30 Tennessee communities participating as charter members of the Make Music Day Alliance in 2026. The initiative expands Tennessee’s presence in the global celebration and provides opportunities for residents to experience and create music throughout their own neighborhoods.

Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world that takes place each year on June 21, the summer solstice.

Originating in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now celebrated in more than 120 countries. Unlike a traditional music festival, Make Music Day invites everyone to participate, regardless of skill level. This year’s inaugural Murfreesboro lineup features a diverse range of local talent and interactive experiences:

– Boro Bourbon & Brews (124 N. Maple St.): Enjoy performances by Derek Cole from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by Dean Batten from 5 to 8 p.m.

– Concert Musical Supply (217 W. Main St.): Catch Jasco Duende performing in the heart of historic downtown from 1 to 2 p.m.

– Hop Springs (6790 John Bragg Hwy.): The School of Rock Murfreesboro House Band takes the stage from 1 to 5 p.m. This event is free and all ages are welcome to attend.

– Dow Street Community Music School (1272 Dow St.): Featuring a special presentation by faculty and students from 2 to 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

– Patterson Park Community Center (521 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.): Join a free community drum circle for both adults and kids. Everybody Drum Some will lead participants in an interactive rhythm session from 3 to 5 p.m.

– The Center for the Arts (110 W. College St.): Host to an Open Mic Night from 7 to 9 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

– Cannonsburgh Village (312 S. Front St.) Bring your families out from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. and participate in drumming circles and music activities, while enjoying the village. Bring your stringed instruments and have fun showing off your musical talent in the shade all afternoon! Everyone is welcome to this free afternoon of family fun.

“We are thrilled to bring this global tradition to Murfreesboro,” said Sarah Callender, executive director of Main Street Murfreesboro. “From drum circles at Patterson Park to open mics at the Center for the Arts, there is an opportunity for everyone in our city to not just listen to music, but to be a part of making it.”

All Make Music Day events are free and open to the public. A full schedule of events and locations is available at makemusicday.org/murfreesboro.
