Members of MTSU’s Students In Free Enterprise Team are working to help fight hunger by staging a March 25 benefit show at Gilligan’s.
SIFE is an international non-profit organization that works with business leaders and higher education to help university students make a difference in their communities and develop the skills necessary to become socially responsible business leaders. The Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger Challenge is a competition sponsored by Campbell Soup Company that challenges SIFE teams in Canada, Mexico and the United States to raise awareness of hunger, translate awareness to action in the form of urgent hunger relief, and empower those in need to defeat the cycle of hunger.
Did you know:
– One in 10 people in the US lives in a household that experiences hunger or the risk of hunger (Bread for the World)
– 3.1 percent of US households frequently skip meals or eat too little, sometimes going without food for a whole day (Bread for the World)
– 7.3 percent of US households have lower-quality diets or must resort to seeking emergency food because they cannot always afford the food they need (Bread for the World)
– 1/5 of American food, an estimated 130 lbs per person ends up in landfills; 49 million people could be fed with our wasted food (USDA)
For each dollar donated in our community, Feed America First (a local, non-profit organization that serves about 160 small, mostly rural agencies within a 150-200 mile radius of their Murfreesboro warehouse) can provide enough food for 12-15 meals. An estimated 20,000 families each month receive food from Feed America First.
Featured artists at the March 25 show include Moonshine Matinee, The Black Shades, Feedback Revival, DJ Double A and Kids Meal featuring Sam & Tre.
Tickets can be purchased for 10 cans of food or $6 at the door. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger Challenge and benefit our local community.
Gilligan’s is located at 527 W. Main St.
