The inaugural Middle Tennessee Fashion Week (MTFW) was a success from talent casting to designer calls to the final runway show at On the Rocks featuring area designers. Perhaps the most unusual was the fact that two of the designers, Brandon Carruth of Carruth Couture and Cat Freeze of Catland Forever Couture, are 13 years old. The teens were joined by more experienced designers and models to showcase the latest looks.
“Middle Tennessee is no longer behind the fashion industry,” said veteran model and MTFW Director Sharon Cumberbatch. “There are great boutiques in the area that bring in the latest fashions from New York and California. Anastasia Boutique delivers adorable, edgy designer labels such as Habitual, whose corporate offices are in Los Angeles. They also carry BCBG brands.”
Cumberbatch was impressed by the response of the community to the activities throughout the week. She had nothing but the highest praise for the MTSU fashion design/merchandising program.
“MTSU delivers exceptional talent,” she said. “Middle Tennessee has talented fashion designers, creative photographers and beautiful people in general.”
Thanks to John Casablancas Director Sherry Rhine, castings were held at their studio. Paul Mitchell The School Murfreesboro hosted castings at their facilities as well.
Due to the success of this event, a fashion week in the fall of 2011 followed by another in the spring of 2012 are possibilities.
According to Cumberbatch, “Middle Tennessee is ready!”
