Unknown Hinson Hits the ’Boro

The self-proclaimed “King of County Western Troubadours” brings his Southern drawl?familiar to many as the voice of Early Cuyler on television’s “Squidbillies”?to Murfreesboro this month.

Touring and recording artist Unknown Hinson has the darkness and drive of Danzig at times, but “Country Western baby, that’s all I play,” the partying Southerner claims.

Hinson sometimes projects a Dracula image, sings one tune called “The Undead Blues” and releases his work on his own Coffin Records label, but has the twang of a white trash hillbilly down to a science.

The troubadour talks of domestic issues evidently common to those sometimes known as Appalachian Americans.

“You’ve slit the tires of my Chevrolet,” he sings on “Ugly Things.” “You’ve done some ugly things for such a pretty (pur-dee) girl.”

And Hinson says he prefers whiskey for breakfast on “Alkyholl Withdrawl,” as a classic country steel guitar slides behind him.

Unknown Hinson, who can be picky about his opening acts, plays with the Laughing Storm Dogs Friday, April 18, at Bluesboro Rhythm and Blues Co. Call 907-1115 for information on VIP tickets, which include a special laminated ticket, autograph and photo with Hinson and private bar access.
