Erin Manning, Nashville singer/songwriter:
“I’ve only been to Bonnaroo once, and I had a severe sinus infection that time and camped by myself. It was still very interesting though. This time, I’m excited to not have a sinus infection, but also because of the lesser-known/up-and-coming bands. Beirut, Nicole Atkins, Sharon Van Etten, Wanda Jackson and Best Coast are some of the ones I’m looking forward to, as well as our local artists playing like Tristen, JEFF the Brotherhood, etc. I’d recommend bringing your own water, some wet wipes (in place of bathing) and also just planning out breaks in between sets you want to see so you can allow for collapsing in the shade and whining about the heat and cicadas. If you’re going for the whole festival and plan on camping, it’s best to pace yourself.”
Ardis Redford, Tetsuo vocalist/guitarist:
“Start conditioning six weeks prior with sprints and calisthenics. Bring a waterproof muumuu, sunscreen and something that smells good to apply to your upper lip.”
Jessey Clark, Paper Not Plastic vocalist/guitarist:
“Newcomers can expect it to be a better time than they think it would be. Also, use Port-A-Potties early in the morning—they’re clean at the point in the day.”
Chris McDowell, The Man Power guitarist:
Sarah Addleman, music business major at MTSU:
“I’d recommend getting some dry ice instead of regular ice, drink lots of water and bring a portable fan. Also, it’s refreshing to bathe in the sinks every morning – haha.”
Jesse Baker, artist manager:
“I’m not going…I think the lineup features too many regularly touring artists to be as costly as it is, and to newcomers I’d recommend rethinking your decision to go. Failing that, I’d say bring a bandana to keep the back of your neck from frying and nets or a flyswatter or something for the great cicada battles you’ll have this year.”
