Scoot over, Nashville, because Murfreesboro is taking over.

The Walnut House recording series continues every Friday night through May 2. This “studio venue” offers a new atmosphere for musicians used to playing in smoke-filled bars.

Leader singer and guitarist of Hammertorch, Jason Yeary, said he is excited for the change.

“I think it’s a good idea. It’s something we have never done before. It will be more intimate, because people will be there to watch our music instead of going to a bar to drink,” Yeary said.

At the end of the eight-week recording series, a panel will vote on the best recordings, and a sampler CD will be compiled.

“This unique recording concept will promote the Murfreesboro music scene as a whole,” said Bracken Mayo, series organizer. “I know the finished compilation CD will contain some awesome music and I’m excited to hear all of the bands in the context of the performance room. The Walnut House is a huge asset in the Murfreesboro community and should host even more showcases in the future.”

Among the bands scheduled to play in the Walnut House Series are Hammertorch, Penguin, The Go Show, The Last Straw, Stuck Lucky, C.J. Vaughn, The Jake Leg Stompers, SkyHi, Dead Chain, Ethan Swim and more.

“I was wary about doing this in the first place, because there weren’t any bands in our ?scene,’ but, it will be a good opportunity to play with people who play different types of music,” Yeary said.

The Walnut House is located at 116 N. Walnut St., in Murfreesboro. Admission is $5. All ages are invited to come and experience the stellar acoustics and intimate setting, Mayo said.
