Play N Trade’s first video game store in Murfreesboro is not like your typical retail gaming establishment. Owner Gregory Clayton is emphasizing “play it before you buy it” with a whopping 10 HDTVs sleekly positioned on the walls throughout the store with the latest and greatest games available to try out.
“A few things set us apart from other video game retailers,” remarks Gregory. “We allow our customers to play any game in the store before they buy it so they don’t go home with a game they don’t like. This is a pretty big deal considering what games cost these days.”
Already thinking ahead of Play N Trade’s competitors with the ability to try out the latest games, their main focus involves bringing to life a scene that Middle Tennessee has been sorely lacking for a number of years: competitive tournament gaming.
With various tournaments run each week in hot titles such as Halo 3, Soul Calibur IV and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, players of all ages are excited that a business has finally stepped up and provided a place where gamers can show off their skills and expertise in a fun, local setting.
“We’ve heard a lot of people say there hasn’t been a good place with regular video game tournaments around here for a while and we’re filling that void. A lot of gamers don’t like the bar scene but want to hang out with other people with a similar interest. The tournaments here and our store in general provide a meeting ground for everyone and the prize money sure doesn’t hurt.”
