“A little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing,” “What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance,” “Every generation needs a new revolution.”
The words of Thomas Jefferson, important, but seemingly forgotten in today’s America.
In this climate of unprecedented dissatisfaction with the ever-growing U.S. federal government, it may indeed be time for that revolution.
Nearly everyone’s hot for one reason or another. Some are upset because the federal government keeps going into debt. Some because they are unemployed. Some because of the lengthy and expensive war we are all engaged in. Some because billions have been handed to the same corrupt financial institutions responsible for the nation’s economic woes.
Some just let this negativity and chatter get to them, and they are mad without even fully understanding why.
Respectable businessmen of traditionally calm demeanor talk of going to Washington and firing shotguns at the Capital.
Maybe this constant arguing and passion is part of the grand balance that keeps the country stable. And it is stable compared to many nations.
Still, many view the federal government as responsible for defending the country, and nothing else. Not for creating jobs, seizing large chunks of citizens’ incomes, providing or mandating medical coverage, regulating industries of any type or getting into the banking and investment business.
This animal has taken on a life of its own and is out of control. We’re all feeding it.
If a handful of people don’t pay their taxes in rebellion, they will be targeted and apprehended, if the IRS is competent enough.
If 20 million people don’t pay their taxes next year, that’s a message that can’t be ignored.
Let’s start over. Abolish the IRS, abolish the Federal Reserve, abolish all laws.
Simply make illegal murder, child abuse, rape, theft and vandalism . . . and that’s it.
Not ready to take such drastic action? Okay, I’ll say this though: government at any level can be cut in half.
Would this be easy and painless? No. Would lots of government employees lose their jobs? Yes.
Some say this is heartless. I say it’s encouraging entrepreneurship.
Live off the land, people. Do something for yourself.
If this is the promised land of freedom and manifest destiny, I’d venture to say God does not want us as slaves—slaves to the government, slaves to an employer sitting in a block building every day from 9-5 or slaves to a bank, living life in an endless cycle of debt.
This land is our land.
