Cuts for a Cause: Local salon and spa gives back this breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one local business is opening its doors on a Sunday afternoon to help support the fight against the disease.
Balan Spa and Hair Studio will accept clients from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18. All of the services that day will be 50 percent off standard cost, and all of the money raised will go to the American Cancer Association.
The fight against breast cancer is very close to the hearts of Balan Owner Amy Kyser and her family.
“It really hit home about two years ago when my mother was diagnosed,” Kyser said. “I now feel like I’m in a situation where I can give back.”
Kyser also volunteers with the Look Good . . . Feel Better program, which helps patients going through cancer treatment with wigs, make-up and other cosmetics.
At the benefit, at least 15 members of the Balan staff will be supporting the cause.
“We’re here donating our skills,” Kyser said.
Services offered include massages, hair cuts, manicures, pedicures and skin treatments. Appointments are encouraged.
Call 907-8004 for more information or to schedule services.
