Mary Gauthier, Gretchen Peters and Eliza Gilkyson write about the things that matter, the soul-baring stuff of lost love, flaming passion and humanity’s dark sides. Nothing frivolous going on with these three acclaimed singer/songwriters. You won’t hear a peep about tailgates or teen crushes at the county fair.

Perhaps that’s why their current tour is billed Three Women and the Truth. They’ll bring their songs and repartee to Nashville’s City Winery, Thursday night, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m.

Headliner Mary Gauthier has been an Americana favorite for well over a decade. Her latest album, Trouble & Love, drew widespread rave reviews for its painfully personal material and depth of songwriting. Gauthier has appeared numerous times on the Grand Ole Opry and at the annual AmericanaFest.

Gretchen Peters is likely best known for penning Martina McBride’s anthemic “Independence Day,” but the New York-born writer has a slew of other tunes to her credit, including Trisha Yearwood’s “On a Bus to St. Cloud” and “The Chill of an Early Fall” by George Strait. Her album Blackbirds made a number of Top Ten lists for 2015.

Eliza Gilkyson, based out of Austin, writes songs that range from intimate ballads to virtual rages against the establishment regime. In 2003, she was inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame.

Gauthier guarantees a splendid time for all who gather at City Winery for Three Women and the Truth.

“We swap stories and songs onstage, and promise a rollicking evening of laughter and emotional intensity,” she tells the Pulse. “We’re having fun together and each night is a different, unscripted, unique event. The love we share for each other is apparent, as is the mutual respect. It makes for a great show!”
