Dear Readers,
I finally got the chance to go camping last week. Aaron, Stephanie, Sarah and I were doing the guitar and s’mores thing around the fire, having a nice little getaway. Before we knew it, we were told to vacate the premises, for check out time has passed. All of that time packing supplies, and already time to leave. Not before I took the plunge?the plunge into Center Hill Lake in late April. Cleansed in the chilliness.
While watching Sean Hannity’s comments on global warming the other day, I thought “It almost looks like he’s trying to have a real debate with facts and everything.”
It is ironic that Gore and others talk about the dangers of carbon emissions just before hopping onto their private jets, and Hannity also noted ethanol is not really much more efficient to produce and use than gasoline. However, it’s important to realize we can make fuel from corn right here in Tennessee, and all across the U.S., and if it’s just equal in efficiency and slightly superior in cleanliness we can take a huge step towards self-reliance and away from dependence on a volatile Middle East region and a money-grubbing OPEC.
Plus, if a few consumers begin to use alternative fuels for transportation, that will lower the demand, and therefore the price, of traditional gasoline for the rest of us. There’s my two cents, which will buy you about two drops of fuel.
Enjoy Jazz Fest this weekend. ’Tis the season for the outdoor music festival.
The Preds were not looking too ferocious in the first round of the NHL playoffs. Evidently the shark is a fierce predator as well. Not fair.

Let your apartment manager, local restaurant, bookstore or where ever it is you people hang out, know you’d like to get The Pulse there, and we’ll make it happen.
Chef Raymond’s has added a third night to its weekly World Tavern Poker series. Now players can come play Sunday nights in addition to Tuesdays and Thursdays. So come on out! There’s nothing to lose, literally. No dinero at least, there’s always the minimally important dignity and self-respect.
In case you missed the straight-through reading of the entire Holy Bible at Cannonsburg, it ends with “Amen.” That’s right after the seven-headed, ten-horned beast part. The book really picks up towards the end, though you wouldn’t expect it from the genealogies.
Many Tennesseans showed love for one of their neighbors, Bernie Ellis (who’s saga was documented in the last Pulse), as a Belcourt Theater event last month raised $10,000 to help save the farmer’s place.
