Obama’s selection of a running mate may indeed be an important one. There are plenty of stupid, crazy racists out there who’d love to assassinate a dark-skinned man in power. True, it’s a horrible thing to think about, but should be considered.

And people, please take me off the list of possible vice presidential candidates. I respect the laws of this nation and I’ve told you, I’m simply not old enough, by law that is, to assume the executive office.

Anyway, another Bonnaroo has come and gone. The masterful weekend of music was possibly the most pleasant Bonnaroo to date weather-wise. The heat was more semi-hellish than scorchingly boiling this year.

During Willie’s set of classics, a man walked through the crowd passionately displaying a bumper sticker that read “9/11 Was an Inside Job.” A spacey-eyed guy wearing a cape and a drug-addled grin approaches him and promptly shoots the man in the armpit with a water gun. Why this is significant, I can’t really put my finger on it, but there’s something about that scenario that sums up the Bonnaroo experience: very weird and surreal on many levels, but without a doubt entertaining.

Back to discussing gas prices?that’s the media’s job. I think it’s now some sort of unspoken law that media outlets devote at least 75 percent of space and time to gas prices these days.

I realize drilling in the U.S. would not mean the black gold goes straight from under our country to the local Exxon station, but the increased supply on the world market would certainly lower prices, though by how much is debatable.

Those opposed to drilling in Alaska argue the short term benefits would be minor, and the real results would only come 10 – 15 years down the road. People made that same argument during the Carter administration, and now many wish that process began in the ?70s and ANWR would be spewing forth oil today.

Intelligent people think long term, right?

Hey, I’m all for ravaging the natural beauty of other nations before our own, but has the time come to tap into our own abundance of oil here in the U.S. before we blame the rest of the world for our highway lifestyle becoming too expensive?
