Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, Alec Baldwin
Directed by Dean Parisot
Rated PG-13
This remake of a 1977 film succeeds in breathing new life into a film that has been described as “mild.”
Dick and Jane Harper (Carrey and Leoni) lead fairly ordinary, upper-middle class lives. When Dick gets promoted to vice president of communications, he suggests his wife quit her job.
Horrifyingly, as soon as she takes his advice, his company goes bankrupt.
Armed with their son’s water pistol and a ton of financial aggression, Dick and Jane stick it to society and the corporate vampires who ruin it.
Carrey is hilarious in this film and Alec Baldwin does a perfect job nailing the sleaziness of his character. If you can’t have fun with Dick and Jane, you’re probably a corporate stooge who needs to go to confessional instead of a theatre.
