Motorcycle Ride for Special Kids

On Saturday, Oct. 18, Bumpus Harley Davidson will host a benefit poker run for Special Kids. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the ride will be immediately following.

All riders are welcome. The ride starts and finishes at Bumpus Harley Davidson and includes a scenic lake-view ride to Normandy. There is a $25 ride fee for singles and $30 for doubles. All proceeds go to support rehabilitation and nursing services provided to children with special needs at Special Kids.

The beautiful scenic ride to Normandy Lake will conclude with lunch provided by CBQ BBQ.

Ball Helps Furry Friends

The Fur Ball waltzes back into Murfreesboro’s Stones River Country Club on Friday, Oct. 17, from 6 – 10 p.m. The black-tie fundraiser will benefit On The Fifth Day (Animal Sanctuary) which continues on its path to raise $100,000 to purchase sanctuary land, the first dog run and administrative building.

The evening will include a three-course vegetarian dinner, cocktails and dancing, silent auction and making a return appearance with their dynamic and entertaining show is crowd favorite, Radio Daze Big Band.

The no-kill sanctuary’s mission is to protect, nurture, love, spay/neuter and find homes for abused and homeless animals.

What’s in a Name?

The Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County and the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area will present the third lecture in a four-part series of public programs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9.

The free talk by Kevin Cason, a Ph.D. student in the public history program at MTSU, will deal with the history and folklore of how Rutherford County communities and geographic landmarks earned their names. The program is part of the 2008 Community Heritage Lecture Series held at The Heritage Center, 225 W.
