Shaky Knees’ Second-Year Success

Shaky Knees returned for its second year in the hub of Atlanta, Ga., this time at Atlantic Station with renowned bands Alabama Shakes, Dropkick Murphys, Local Natives, Iron and Wine, Portugal. The Man, Modest Mouse, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The National and many more. Some of the biggest indie/rock bands of today graced the Peachtree Stage, Piedmont Stage, Ponce De Leon Stage and Boulevard Stage May 9-11, 2014.

Groups such as Ghost, Deer Tick, Tokyo Police Club, Lord Huron, The Lone Bellow and The Whigs played daily late-night shows at Terminal West, Center Stage, Masquerade and The Earl in Atlanta.

It was nice to see many of the bands that made a presence at the 2013 Live on the Green series in Nashville, like Fly Golden Eagle, Alabama Shakes and Nashville’s The Apache Relay. Saturday was a great day with Cold War Kids drawing in the crowd at the Boulevard Stage and Houndmouth getting everybody pumped just as it started to rain. It rained for about 30 minutes, however the festival picked back up with Jenny Lewis at the Ponce de Leon Stage bringing memories from my high school years as she played Rilo Kiley songs “A Man/Me/Then Jim,” “Silver Linings” and solo songs ending with “Acid Tongue.”

Modest Mouse ended the festival Saturday night at Peachtree Stage with old songs “Dramamine” and many from the album Good News for People Who Love Bad News, popular track “The Whale Song” and more.

Atlanta vendors were not shy, as the festival featured Nectar, The Atlanta Burger, King of Pops, Bomb Squad, The Fry Guy, Tex’s Tacos, On Tapa The World as well as many alcohol booths and local artisans.

Overall I had a great time at Shaky Knees and look forward to the lineup next year. There were a lot of people but enough food, bathrooms and plenty of room at the shows. Atlanta was a blast as usual, and I love the people who attend live music events in the city, and the Atlanta venues.
