Flock cameras remain a hot topic in the Murfreesboro area, and around the country. This network of license plate readers now tracks and records vehicles’ movement, and it seems the vast majority of the public do not want them.
The local government certainly does, though.
“Oh, but it makes the police’s job easier,” they say. That’s stupid. The police’s job is to protect my constitutional rights. Law enforcement officers literally take an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. Their job, by definition and oath, is to protect the people they serve from unreasonable searches—not subject them to unreasonable searches. If they are party to helping implement a network to spy on everyone, if they subject anyone to an unreasonable search, investigation, seizure or surveillance without a warrant or probable cause, it’s not simply poor job performance, it’s a violation of the Constitution, a dishonorable breach of their oath. Certainly, they have all read the Constitution and take it seriously.
Meanwhile, in China, robots are breaking human athletics records—sometimes catching fire or crashing spectacularly while they attempt it. Interesting times, indeed.
If you do not want to live in a growing city, unfortunately Murfreesboro may not be the place for you. The businesses keep coming to town, the people keep coming. Soon Buc-ee will be here!

Goodbye Dolly. As great of a songwriter and entertainer as Dolly Parton was, it’s remarkable how few lead their tributes to her with that. They say what a generous person she was, what a great boss, friend, family member, Tennessean and human she was.
The Mayo house is filled with books from the Imagination Library, Dolly reminds me to pour myself a cup of ambition, I thoroughly enjoyed the Lightning Rod and various other rides at Dollywood, Sarah and I saw her perform “Rocky Top” at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Her work touched just about everyone in some way, it seems. If we all attempt to do just 10 percent of what she did in her lifetime, what a world that would be.
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine,” I know that. Is your heart merry? May your hearts be merry!
Take care of your body; take care of your lungs; take care of your heart; take care of your mind.
My heart is with those filled with sorrow or discomfort, those who may have lost a child or a loved one, prayers for those watching a family member go through a struggle, and to those suffering. Peace be with you. We wish you tidings of comfort and joy.
