Light at the End of a Long, Snowy Tunnel

Spring fishing is just a few weeks away!

It has been a cold snowy winter and cabin fever has taken affect more this year than previous years. But have no fear, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is just three to four weeks away! March is the kick-off month of the season and is usually some of the best fishing of the year.

During March the water temperature will climb to 55 degrees. When it does, the crappie and bass will begin moving into the shallows between 3-5′ of water to begin looking for areas to spawn. During this pre-spawn time, the fish are active, feeding often and ready to be caught! This is a great time to fish with plastic lizards and crankbaits for bass, and plastic grubs and live minnows for crappie. Try to target wood structure such as trees, stumps, etc.; this is where both species prefer to stage during the pre-spawn.

The best days to fish are going to be those when the sun is shining and temperatures are in the 50s and 60s. During days that reach these temperatures, the fish will be the most active and on the move.

Tight Lines and Safe Fishing.
