Linebaugh Giving Tree Makes Books Available for All

This holiday season, Linebaugh Public Library System hopes to encourage the community to not only borrow but also to give.
During the month of December, the Linebaugh, Smyrna, Eagleville and Myrtle Glanton Lord library branches will display Giving Trees. Ornaments on the trees will be decorated with adult and children’s books from the library’s wishlist; patrons can select a book to purchase for the library, either in memory or in honor of a loved one or as a donation.
“With the price of books increasing, and with the large number of wonderful books that are released every year, we just can’t afford to buy all the books we would like to make available to the residents of Rutherford County,” said LPLS Director Rita Shacklett. “For the Giving Trees, we’ve selected dozens of items from our wishlist, including recently released titles, classics we do not currently own, and lost titles that need to be replaced.”
The Giving Trees are also a way for the library to promote its memorial and tribute program during the holiday season, Shacklett said.
“Memorials and tributes are a thoughtful way to honor a family member, friend or colleague. By selecting a book from our Giving Tree, you can make a contribution in honor of that hard-to-shop-for person on your list, or in memory of a loved one, while supporting your local library.”

Buzz Bash for Kids

Saturday, Dec. 5, The Boro Bar and Grill and 102.9 The Buzz team up for a concert to help support the Second Harvest Food Bank Kid’s Cafe.
Piranah, Noisecult, Dead Chain and New Diabolic will perform, and all of those who bring an unwrapped toy will get into the show for just $1.
There will also be a Nashville edition of the Buzz Bash for Kids, held Friday, Dec. 11, with Piranah, Noisecult, Blue Collar Suicide and the Deconstructions held at Rock Bar on 3rd Avenue; and a punk benefit the following night, Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Muse with the Carry Ons, Creeping Cruds, Noisecult, Fist of the North Star, Vonnegut and Obnoxy.

Win Prizes for Doing Good

Local music store Johnny Guitar’s will entice people to donate food for those in need by entering all who give food into a raffle for prizes.
Everyone who makes a five food item donation, or a donation of $5, to the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank can win prizes such as lessons at the shop, guitar straps and other gear.
Other merchants such as Gold’s Gym, Riteway Auto Detailing and Gateway Tire are also offering services as prizes for donors.
The food drive ends Dec. 18, and prizes will be awarded on Dec. 22.

Golf Event Collects Toys

Golfers will hit the links at Champions Run Golf Course in a four person scramble and toy drive Dec. 4-5.
Proceeds will go to the Rutherford County Salvation Army.
Each participating golfer must bring a toy as part of the entry fee.
