Stones River National Battlefield Holds Oct. 17 Event to Celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month

Stones River National Battlefield will celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a special day of experiences connecting visitors to history, music and the stories of this treasured national park.

The event will feature an array of activities throughout the day, highlighted by special live music performances from the Home Sweet Home Band and Two Rivers Fife and Drum. Visitors are invited to enjoy the music while experiencing the battlefield’s historic landscape and learning more about the people and events that shaped Stones River.

The event is also an opportunity to learn more about the Friends of Stones River National Battlefield, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting preservation, education, and stewardship at the park.

“The Stones River National Battlefield is a place where history, nature, and community come together,” said Lindsey Jennings, executive director of the Friends of Stones River National Battlefield.

“Events like this give people another way to experience and connect with this special place while helping us preserve its stories and landscapes for generations to come.”

2027 will mark the battlefield’s 100th anniversary as a national park site, and the park is preparing for what is expected to be a landmark year, with more than 500,000 visitors anticipated. Stay tuned next year for many more special events and opportunities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Murfreesboro community’s national park.
