Word From the Editor: November Brings Buc-ee’s and Gratitude

This is the month of cold November rain!

I will sing “November Rain” every day this month, and I encourage you to do the same.

This is also the season of holiday markets. There’s quite a few of them around Murfreesboro this month—Events at East 96 hosts the Black Barn Holiday Market on Nov. 14; the following Saturday, Nov. 21, will see the Shabby Lane Holiday Market at Lane Agri-Park Community Center as well as the Murfreesboro Holiday Market inside the Stones River Mall; and then Middle Ground Brewing Co. will present a local Black Friday Market on Friday, Nov. 27.

Shop local, first!

Sure, you likely won’t find a locally produced PS5, pair of Nikes or iPhone, but you very well may discover some cool jewelry, candles, socks, soaps, honey, artwork and other fine items from the area.

Get the important people in your life something thoughtful, but do keep in mind, in the midst of rampant holiday consumerism, that this is also the month of thanksgiving and gratitude.

And this is the month that Murfreesboro gets its Buc-ee’s. I believe almost everyone can agree that Buc-ee’s opening its fueling station, snacking utopia and beaver carnival in our town is the biggest news that’s happened in the Murfreesboro area since the Ed the Zebra.

Some of my personal Buc-ee’s recommendations include the Texas cheesesteak burrito, chocolate-covered coffee beans, spicy pickled Brussels sprouts, banana chips . . . they have about whatever you’d like to snack on, while seated on a Buc-ee’s double wide camping chair.

The place will be a madhouse.

How many people will come through Buc-ee’s on its opening day? Or in a given month?

I don’t know, but the Beaver Fever is real.

But the city will likely place a Flock camera over there to track exactly how many vehicles pull in there, as they do with most corners of this town.

Doesn’t it make you feel safe and secure knowing that the good people over at Flock Safety have detailed records of who goes where, when, in what vehicle and how often?

You can’t control everything around you. Your situation may not be perfect. You can’t always choose the people in your life. Something from time to time may even annoy or frustrate you. But you can choose to be grateful, be thankful for the people in your life, for what you have, for what you have experienced, for the opportunities that you do have.

Life tip: Rather than wanting for things you do not have, or for situations to be different from how they are, desire for things to be precisely how they are, for you to be in the exact place you are right now—and I guarantee you your wishes will come true.
