The Central Magnet School Chess Team placed fifth in its division at the 2024 Middle School National Chess Championships, held in May in Atlanta, Georgia.

The team members were Richie Gong, Aayush Kafle, Colton Lafferty and Connor Reaves, each competing in the Nationals for the first time and scoring at least 4.5 points.

Gong scored 5.5 points and finished 14th among 287 players.
